Dr. Hauwa Alhassan is a highly respected advocate for social justice in Nigeria, known for her unwavering dedication to empowering youth, championing women’s initiatives, and transforming the educational landscape. With over two decades of advocacy, Dr. Hauwa’s work has been instrumental in addressing pressing societal issues, from drug abuse and gang violence among youth to the education and safety of vulnerable girls. Her pioneering initiatives include founding the Muslim Youth Conference in Nigeria, where she engages young people in critical conversations on drug abuse and gang-related challenges, guiding them toward informed decisions and meaningful societal contributions. She also established the Arewa Women in Diaspora, an influential network of Northern Nigerian women living abroad, which has provided millions of naira, professional services, and mentorship for local initiatives across Nigeria over the last five years. One of Dr. Hauwa’s most impactful achievements was her leadership in securing the release of the “Kebbi 11” girls, abducted from their community, and her continued counseling support for their transition back into society. Her role in this successful advocacy highlights her dedication to safeguarding children’s rights and education. Internationally recognized for her contributions, Dr. Hauwa has received numerous honors, including a place among Africa’s top 100 social influencers and an Ambassador Award from the Nigerian Student Union. Now, as the Technical Adviser on Basic Education for Jigawa State, she leverages her influence to promote girl child education, combat child labor, and mobilize communities to fight human trafficking.
