Dr. Abba Abubakar Aliyu is the Managing Director/CEO of the Rural Electrification Agency (REA), leading Nigeria's efforts to expand reliable, sustainable and affordable electricity to underserved communities. An experienced engineer and energy-development expert, he has dedicated his career to advancing renewable energy, rural electrification and policy-driven innovation.
Under his leadership, REA drives major initiatives such as the Nigeria Electrification Project (NEP) and the DARES program, deepening energy access, supporting economic growth and accelerating Nigeria's clean energy transition. He works closely with development partners, government institutions and the private sector to strengthen the country's energy systems.
Dr. Abba holds a PhD in Electrical and Electronics Engineering, with contributions spanning power systems, renewable integration and sustainable infrastructure. He has served on national committees on energy policy and climate action and remains an influential voice in shaping Nigeria's energy future. He is a fellow/member of leading engineering and energy bodies, committed to ensuring clean, reliable electricity for all communities.
